The bitcoin pizza guy strikes again.
Originally published by David Floyd on the investopedia.com blog, software developer Laszlo Hanyecz (known as the pizza guy) has made his second pizza purchase using cryptocurrency. In 2010, Hanyecz purchased two pizzas from Papa Johns for 10,000 bitcoins. At the time, 10,000 bitcoins would of equaled around $40UDS. Which in my opinion is still a bit steep for two pizzas. But wait, it gets worse...
According to Floyd, the 2010 purchase is now worth $98,300,725. (Yes, over 98 million dollars. Just in case you thought that was a typo.) There's even a twitter profile dedicated to updating the current USD value of the infamous pizza purchase.
After a trade off of 98 million dollars for two pizzas, Hanyecz was hungry for more. He decided to use another cryptocurrency known as the Lighting Network to order this time.
"Lightning functions by allowing two counter parties to keep a payment channel open, so that they can send bitcoin back and forth off the blockchain, without having to go through the slow, expensive step of mining." (David Floyd)
The transaction was approved and Hanyecz got his pizza. Time will tell if the transaction was a good idea, or another 98 million dollar loss.
Also, shout-out to our friends over at the Start-up Justice Warriors for their review of the pizza shelf. It's a saucy article, check it out!
Stay Saucy

98M is a pretty steep price for a pizza no matter how saucy. Oh, it was two pizzas? Then it was a bargain. :)
